My garden has two levels, this herbaceous border is at the lower level.
The red Oriental Poppies are Goliath and flower at the same time as the Kniphofia to create a dramatic splash of red against the greens of the other herbaceous plants which flower later on.
The mature trees in the background also provide an excellent foil to the vivid red.
When the poppies are finished they are cut off level with the ground and the space around them is planted with Dahlia
