The giant stone snail was added after the Harrogate Spring Flower Show of 2000 where it was such a success with visitors. He sits on red chippings which show his limestone body up well.
The cottage border is very informally planted and now has a path which runs through the middle and a seat to stop and admire the view.
Originally this end of the garden had a border of ash saplings and a tatty spruce tree along with a good width of undergrowth.
